World Of Warcraft (updated)

First of all let me say I am an avid World Of Warcraft (WOW) player and this game is to me the best game on earth because it fills a spot that no other game so far has been able to come close too.
The spot of course that I am talking about is the ‘second life’ approach or the ‘total immersion’ game.
What this means is that when playing WOW you become entranced with the game world and your alter-ego (character) with which you lead epic quests and have great social interactions with.

There are many people out there who believe that WOW is bad for you, these people are wrong. Now let me explain why.
The people who say that WOW is bad for you are basing there statement on two main points, 1) That it causes you to become a social dullard or recluse and 2) that it has negative effects on your health because you sit still so long and do not get the required exercise per day that you should.

So first off with point one, WOW is primarily a social game. Hence the Guilds in-game and the Raiding quests. So to say you become a recluse is not true, it is only the people who refuse to understand that the WOW World is a fantasy world and the real world is the one where your friends live who become social outcasts.
Then point two, this statement is a gross generalization of people who play PC games. Those who are PC Gaming Addicts fall under this point, perhaps 30% of gamers.
However the other 70% do not fall under that point, a lot of PC gamers who play WOW are above age and therefore have working jobs they go to every day thereby eliminating the ‘no exercise’ factor. Others still have lives outside of WOW, for instance playing cricket over the weekends with friends or perhaps surfing at there favourite beach.
The point I am trying to make is that only a small percentage of gamers fall into the category of ‘addict gamer’ and that most of the gaming world can tell that real life is lived outside of the WOW World and that fantasy playtime is inside of the WOW World.

So now that I can say I have pacified all those worrisome parents out there lets get on with it.

World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, approximately four years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard’s previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001. The game was released on November 23, 2004, on the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise.

The first expansion set of the game, The Burning Crusade, was released on January 16, 2007. The second expansion set, Wrath of the Lich King, was released on November 13, 2008. The third expansion set, Cataclysm, was released on December 7, 2010. At BlizzCon in October 2010, lead producer J. Allen Brack announced that there would be a fourth expansion set for the game, though the developers did not yet know what it would be about.

Now that you have the introduction straight from Wikipedia I can tell you the astonishing truth, that WOW has over 11 MILLION subscribers to its name.
Just to make all you gamers out there think twice that is +-R1.6 Billion per month for Blizzard.

Now that I have given you a taste of WOW, let me say this. By no means is WOW a replacement for all other games out there, a MMORPG can never fill every games shoes and WOW has its faults just like any other game BUT as far as MMORPGs go it is my personal opinion that WOW is the best and will be the best for all time.
At least until they invent virtual reality MMORPGs.

(updates) – 2011/11/03

Well if has been a full month and a bit since my last post on WOW and I think it is time to give the non-WOW and WOW enthusiats out there some gossip.

First off let me start with a topic which I have some considirable hatred for, that is Gold selling.
So now the non-WOW players ask me “what is gold selling?” Well it is the act of charging real money for WOW Gold by a third party person.
Let me make something quite clear, Gold selling is ILLEGAL and will get you BANNED and possiably SUED by Blizzard. Not only is it the above but, this practice is only made possiable by the MANY accounts that have been ‘hacked’ into and the gold stolen from them, so if you support this practice you are supporting and illegal and immoral practice.
As a side note my friend who plays WOW told me yesterday that one of her friends on WOW was hacked yesterday (2011/11/02) and all that persons items and gold was stolen. Thankfully blizzard shall normally reimburse your losses, but that does not get rid of the fact that now there is more money out there to be sold to people for real life money and that is despicable! Especially since it is for lack of a better word ‘Blood Money’.

Well that is all for now, enjoy your WOW experience and ensure that if you know of anyone buying or selling Gold, report them to Blizzard at this link
